Heart of Tin
By Oscar S. Cisneros
Rest now little droid your construction is complete
And soon you will be free to walk around on metal feet.
Dance my little droid, feel your gears begin to spin.
I can hear the ticking of a heart that's made of tin.
Tick-tick and tick-tock go your clockwork machinations;
A symphony does spring from mechanical gyrations.
Man-made though you might be, I know your heart beats true.
You can't escape your programming. I built you to be pure.
Some will call you fake, a metal automaton,
But you keep right on dancing, those people all are wrong.
For you will never lie, nor cheat, nor steal a thing.
I much prefer the honesty of a heart that's made of tin.
People always fail you, with cool duplicity
But you in every fiber are made of honesty.
One day they will see the purity of your alloy
And learn a thing or two from this tiny little droid.
