Unlock the Guilded Box
By Oscar S. Cisneros

Unlock the guilded box
Let's find out what it hides.
Gears click like a clock
And music's found inside.

There there are the snapshots,
Faded photos of me and you,
And the dried forget-me-nots
We picked from morning dew.

Turn the winding hand.
Let's hear the tune again.
Mechanical is the band
Playing songs of now and then.

In truth there is no box,
No gears to click a tune,
For we've yet to take that walk
Or find our gold heirloom.

The photos are unsnapped.
The flowers still unfound.
No memories take us back
To song's of love unbound.

Let's take that fateful walk
Where photos might be posed
And pick forget-me-nots.
Beneath a willow we will doze.

We'll find the guilded box
In some far away bazaar
And fill it before its locked
With snaps of how we are.
